Evaluation of Microalgal Diet to Culture Adult Oithona oculata Farran (Copepoda, Cyclopoida)

چکیده

While copepods are important prey for many wild marine fish larvae and preferred as a live feed culturing larval fish, their low productivity the costs associated with them typically limit use food source in all but experimental situations. In series of experiments four readily commercially available microalgae (Thalassiosira weissflogii Grunow, Rhodomonas salina Wislouch, Tetraselmis suecica Kylin Butch, Isochrysis galbana Parke), we determine which them, when exclusively fed to commonly occurring copepod, Oithona oculata, over 15-day period, results greatest copepod survival egg production rates. We posit that species might be an ideal candidate taxa commercial-scale culture microalga is them.

On the uncertainty beneath the name Oithona similis Claus, 1866 (Copepoda, Cyclopoida)

The marine cyclopoid Oithona similis sensu lato Claus, 1866, is considered to be one of the most abundant and ubiquitous copepods in the world. However, its minimal original diagnosis and the unclear connection with its (subjective) senior synonym Oithona helgolandica Claus, 1863, may have caused frequent misidentification of the species. Consequently, it seems possible that several closely rel...

Molecular Systematic of Three Species of Oithona (Copepoda, Cyclopoida) from the Atlantic Ocean: Comparative Analysis Using 28S rDNA

Species of Oithona (Copepoda, Cyclopoida) are highly abundant, ecologically important, and widely distributed throughout the world oceans. Although there are valid and detailed descriptions of the species, routine species identifications remain challenging due to their small size, subtle morphological diagnostic traits, and the description of geographic forms or varieties. This study examined t...

Effects of temperature and food concentration on the survival, development and growth rates of naupliar stages of Oithona davisae (Copepoda, Cyclopoida)

Oithona spp. are probably the most abundant and ubiquitous copepods in the world’s oceans. However, knowledge of their development and growth rates is scarce compared to that of calanoid copepods. In the present laboratory study, we determined the survival, development and growth rates of the naupliar stages of Oithona davisae under different temperature regimes and food concentrations. Nauplia...

A new culture system for in situ observation of the growth and development of Eucyclops serrulatus (Copepoda: Cyclopoida).

A practical and convenient method of rearing Eucyclops serrulatus in a microculture environment is described. A complete life cycle of E. serrulatus was maintained in a narrow space on a microscope slide glass on which a cover glass of 22 x 40 mm in size was mounted at a height of 0.8 mm. The culture medium was constituted by bottled mineral water boiled with grains of Glycine max (soybean). Ch...

Taxonomic evaluation of eleven species of Microcyclops Claus, 1893 (Copepoda, Cyclopoida) and description of Microcyclops inarmatus sp. n. from America

Description and meristic analysis of eleven species of Microcyclops recorded in America were performed based on the examination of type specimens and fresh material. Microscopic analysis of oral appendages, such as the shape and armature of the distal coxal endite of the maxilla, the ornamentation on the caudal surface of the antenna, and the intercoxal sclerites and armament of the inner basis...
